Special (B) Visa for Georgia: B1–B4 Explained (2026)

The special visa (category B) is a short-term Georgian visa intended for certain official, governmental and international missions. It sits alongside the Diplomatic (A) Visa and is one of the visa categories established by Article 7 of the Law of Georgia on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.

The four sub-categories

Georgia issues four types of special visas:

• B1 — for members of official foreign delegations, holders of official or service passports travelling on a working visit, and their accompanying family members or other accompanying persons.
• B2 — for administrative, technical and service staff of diplomatic missions and consular offices, their family members, private domestic staff, employees of international and humanitarian organisations operating in Georgia and their family members, as well as private domestic staff accompanying holders of an A2 diplomatic visa.
• B3 — for persons travelling to Georgia under bilateral or multilateral international agreements, members of peacekeeping forces or other military contingents stationed in Georgia pursuant to an international treaty, and their accompanying family members.
• B4 — for persons travelling to Georgia on various missions where their entry serves the national interests of Georgia.

Type and validity

A special visa is a short-term visa.

It may be issued as:

• a single-entry visa permitting a stay of up to 30 calendar days; or
• a multiple-entry visa with a validity period of up to five years, in accordance with the Law.

The type of visa issued depends on the purpose and circumstances of the visit.

Extension

A special visa may be extended where the legal grounds for its issuance continue to exist.

Applications for an extension are submitted through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, which considers the application and makes the relevant decision in accordance with the Law.

Is this the right visa for you?

For almost all private travellers, the answer is no.

Most visitors to Georgia instead rely on:

• Visa-Free Entry, if their nationality qualifies;
• the Ordinary (C) Visa for tourism, private visits and most short-term business travel; or
• the Immigration (D) Visa for long-term purposes such as employment, study, family reunification or investment.

Who needs a special (B) visa?

Members of foreign delegations and service/official-passport holders on working visits, the administrative and technical staff of diplomatic and consular missions and international-organisation offices in Georgia, people arriving under Georgia's international treaties, peacekeepers and military contingents, and certain national-interest missions.

How is a special visa different from a diplomatic visa?

Both are short-term and official, but the diplomatic (A) visa covers heads of state, accredited diplomats and consular officials, while the special (B) visa covers the surrounding support staff, delegation members, treaty-based arrivals and peacekeeping contingents. Only the A1 diplomatic category carries diplomatic immunity.

Can a special visa be extended?

Yes. Short-term special (and diplomatic) visas can be extended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, which receives the documents and makes the decision.
